Delta Air Lines is moving steadily forward with construction of its
new, state-of-the-art home at LaGuardia Airport, where a $4 billion
terminal will replace the existing Terminals C and D when completed in
early 2022.
Construction of the steel frame for Delta’s new arrivals and
departure hall was completed in July 2020, an important milestone marked
by a traditional “topping out” ceremony.
With the steel in place,
construction of the terminal’s exterior curtain wall is underway,
bringing the project closer to reality.
A network of roadways serving the new terminal will be activated next summer, six months ahead of schedule.
The terminal will consist of 37 flexibly sized gates that can accommodate Delta’s full fleet, distributed among four concourses connected by a centralized check-in
lobby, security checkpoint and baggage claim.
Dual taxi lanes between
the concourses will greatly improve airfield efficiency, resulting in
reduced taxi time to and from the gate before take-off and after
landing.
The facility will offer larger gate areas and more seating, as well
as 30 percent more concessions space than its existing facilities.
A new
Delta Sky Club will feature a Sky Deck with airfield views, locally
inspired food options, artwork from emerging New York artists, and other
unique amenities.
The terminal will include improved roadways and drop-off/pick-up
areas, as well as a curbside check-in bypass leading directly to the
security checkpoint.
The overall terminal design integrates sustainable
technologies and improvements in energy efficiency.
The airline broke ground on construction of the new $4 billion
terminal in August 2017, building on the $2 billion Delta has invested
in New York over the past seven years; its lease agreement runs through
2050.
